If the hydrogen is produced from natural gas yes, if the hydrogen is produced via nuclear or returnables no. The only byproduct is water vapor, which cycles through the atmosphere quickly. Water vapor is only an issue in feedback loops associated long term greenhouse gases.
May I ask you (assuming that the H2 is produced by electrolyis powered by a zero carbon electricity source) if there would be substantially less climate impact from such an aircraft? Thanks!
Hydrogen is a high-potential zero-emission technology because it can eliminate more than CO2 emissions. We are working with climate scientists and propulsion experts to design propulsion systems that will allow zero emissions - meaning zero climate impact! 1/2
This is exceptional potential compared to all other energy pathways. 2/2
Please tell those fossil fuel power station to stop emission. Look at the share of emission generated by all the sectors and you'll find aviation is not even on top of list and yet you are here complaining when OEM is working hard on reducing it while other sector did nothing.
If the hydrogen is generated by reforming + CCUS, or even better from electrolysis powered by renewables, how does it affect our climate?
