I was wondering why does a thunderstorm cools down the air so much ? Is it mainly the latent heat of evaporation once it rains ? Or is it that the thunderstorm comes with a cold front itself ?
Here's an example of just how much a thunderstorm can cool the air, from the @OxfordAOPP weather station:

Left work today where there was no storm. My car said it was 33 degrees. Drove 8 miles or so home where it had just rained and there was a storm - it was 23 degrees. I was amazed at the difference!
