Wow. Counterintuitive to see that it's colder above the hotter parts of the world. Counterintuitive to a non-scientist like me, at least.
This map, computed from @ECMWF ERA5 data, shows the average temperature of the tropopause: A region that's typically 10-15km in altitude and acts as a natural 'cap' on our weather. Big thunderstorms will reach the tropopause.
