What about the impact on post docs and fellows? Many of us can't work from home due to, f. ex, childcare needs or laboratory access. A no cost extension isn't very helpful to us :(

No cost extensions aren't that helpful for any grant that covers research staff salary. For example on my fellowship, my salary is paid, as is a postdocs. The only way to cover my additional salary would be to scrap a load of science, and I would have no money for the postdoc.
