Hi Simon, can we use this information in our upcoming (& ongoing) Fleet Refresher for 2019? We have a discussion about our lightning strike rate.
Just came across this graphic of mine. It's a couple of years old, but still interesting.
It shows the ave distance from #thunderstorms that airliners fly at various times of day. 
Aircraft fly ~8.5% closer to storms at night than during the day. Quite a big difference!pic.twitter.com/tA9BBpOjg5

I’m not surprised, Simon. During daytime (and with full moon nights), we clearly see the clouds, and tend to avoid them even if they’re not a threat. Just for pax comfort. I often look at my wx radar, telling myself I wouldn’t have offset that far at night. Safety in mind, always
