Sad, but not unexpected: I've been asked to help an airline look into a storm encounter caused by pilots relying on an inaccurate EFB display of severe weather (ahem, unnamed app that is the only one in existence) rather than their weather radar. #CrapApps

New Mexico incident I suspect? Zero excuse for that. This is a failure in the system. ATC should have known that the storm was very severe and then passed it on to the aircraft. Not as a suggestion either.

I’m not sure many airlines allow crew to use “App based” data to circumvent weather. I could see it as a tool to backup what I’m seeing on my radar in the Flight Deck, but certainly wouldn’t use this as a primary tool.
