    As the telescope flies into space, its launch was caught by a fellow space traveller: 's GOES-16 weather satellite. Watch for the bright dot travelling left to right: That's the Ariane 5 flying to space!

    The GOES-16 weather satellite has now started pointing at , where the will launch from in just a few minutes. Some high cloud around (looks blue) over the launch site, but fairly clear over the Atlantic.

    D28 is almost hiding here, it's right at the bottom of the first image (which is rotated by 90 degrees), you can only see the Eastern edge of it.

    Antarctic icebergs and sea ice, seen by satellites. I love the jumble of shapes, sizes and textures. The biggest 'berg in here is D28, which calved from the Amery Ice shelf just over two years ago.

    Five days of activity from the Hunga Tonga-Hunga Ha'apai , seen by the Japanese Himawari-8 satellite. The volcano is in the lower left of this video. Watch as it huffs and puffs, blowing out clouds of steam, ash and gas!

    Data from the 's Sentinel-1 mission shows that the island of Hunga Tonga has grown larger because of this eruption. Look at the new bright area in the middle of this, that's new land!

    Darren isn't well known for accuracy, but he's even managed to get this 'fact' wrong: Evenings have been getting lighter for a week already, and mornings will continue to get darker for another week or so.

    From tomorrow onwards, the UK will experience more daylight, which means brighter mornings and lighter evenings for longer. That little nugget cheered me up, hopefully, it does for someone else too.

    Today is the December , when the Sun appears at its most southerly point. Here's how the Sun's movement looks from space, seen by 's ...one frame at 6am UTC each day. In Dec, Europe is in darkness at 6am but in the summer we're already in the sun!
