  2. Important as always to remember that while that is a lot of money that'll have to be spent, it's also a lot of money being *paid*, to local contractors and supply chain.

Wow. Claire O'Neill's letter to Johnson. It's brutal, and increases my respect for her dramatically. Its contents are also a terrible omen for... everybody, everywhere.

Also they're talking about changing the venue with 10 months to go, one suspects in order to stop the Scottish gov getting involved.

when editing, you can delete words 95% of the time. You don’t need em. Just delete your entire manuscript, turn off your laptop, walk outside & find a bog, let the peat reclaim you under its mossy blanket

Fascinating insight into why HS2 is quite so expensive. TLDR: shouldn't be, and phase 2 probably won't be.

Powering ships with LNG may not be a great idea after all: Though bear in mind this comparison is against marine gas oil (basically diesel), *not* against heavy fuel oil as tended to be used by larger ships.

Looks like getting the train to will cost about 4x as much as flying. Might blow my budget enough to make me pay for my own meals while there. This is kinda ridiculous. (no criticism intended of universities or budgets; more of governments)
