Prior to Stalin is questionable, though Russia was recovering from WW1.

Again, I’m not saying it was a real democracy, but it had a slightly more valid claim to democratic rule than the U.S. government does now

In that they were “popular” for the most part, while holding elections with a similar rate of disenfranchisement

What we have isn't perfect and can be improved but, at least for now is better than anywhere else. How many people are smuggling themselves into North Korea or Venezuela?

North Korea and Venezuela were third-world countries BEFORE they tried “socialism.” We don’t fully know how NK is being run, but Venezuela didn’t even come *close* to socialism, despite Chavez’ best efforts. He only got 20% of the way there.

Venezuela’s economic crash is due to a monolithic export economy, though, not socialist policy. Although the latter is a reason why they’ve attracted the ire of certain lenders and businesses.

Norway has almost a trillion dollars in its North Sea oil sovereign fund. Why couldn't Venezuela do the same? Wasting money on arms it can't use or subsidizing oil sales to Cuba won't hasn't benefited its people. Their current President hasn't lost the 30lbs his citizens have.

“Why couldn't Venezuela do the same?” Because they never had almost a trillion dollars in a North Sea oil sovereign fund? What do you mean? You realize that Norway is no less “socialist” than Venezuela, right? (And that most Venezuelans aren’t starving?)

Norway has only 70% private employment, and some of that is in market-socialist cooperatives. Venezuela has 80% private employment, and no cooperative sector to speak of. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cooperatives_of_Norway …https://www.forbes.com/sites/niallmccarthy/2017/07/21/scandinavia-leads-the-world-in-public-sector-employment-infographic/#791a2d981820 …

If the stat applies to those employed it might he correct as given Venezuela hyperinflation its private business sector has been destroyed.

But destroying the private business sector would result in a HIGHER percentage of public sector employment. But theirs is LOWER than Norway’s. Under state “socialism,” private sector employment would be 0%, and public sector employment would be 100%.
