99 smartphones are transported in a handcart to generate virtual traffic jam in Google Maps. Through this activity, it is possible to turn a green street red which has an impact in the physical world by navigating cars on another route! #googlemapshacks http://www.simonweckert.com/googlemapshacks.html …pic.twitter.com/6KcMm1XgAF

Is it possible to use 99 virtual devices to send google incorrect location data and simulate the same experiment without real phones?

I call BS on this one. The phones need proper GPS reception for this to work and the ones in the deeper layers of the cart will not have that. Furthermore Google will probably filter out cases like "99 phones on a single spot". They need to filter out pedestrian traffic anyways.

That's maybe why using the cart, so that it doesn't have the step-shaking, but smoother movement. And I don't think the upper devices will block the GPS signal too much.

What speed is the bus doing. Is it possible that the map knows for some value of know, where bus stops are and that these people just got on the bus. As for one hotspot and 99 clients, that's a bus. :-)
