Release time! I just published metered-rs, a crate providing efficient live metrics with (hopefully) high ergonomics: just annotate your methods you wish to measure with the metrics you're interested in! It's on !

Mostly unrelated, but we had a spring boot service that sat on over 1gb of resident memory while sitting idle and replaced with a rust service that uses around 40mb under load while offering better capabilities and features.

It used to be considered reasonable to listen & try to understand both sides of an argument. But now, if opposing extremists are screaming at each other & you don’t agree 100% with either, you’re considered the enemy of both. It’s why many people are afraid to contribute at all.

Rust friends. Lets talk about async-std and tokio. There is a (relatively) polite cold war happening, and I'm pretty sure it's bad for all of us. Tokio paved a ridiculous amount of ground in the rust/async ecosystem, and it's been on a steady climb of improvement.

Twitter is funding a small independent team of up to five open source architects, engineers, and designers to develop an open and decentralized standard for social media. The goal is for Twitter to ultimately be a client of this standard. 🧵
