I get asked a lot about what I do as a speaker when I'm sick! When you're on a plane constantly and leading 3+ hours of training or speaking it's so important to keep your voice ready to speak. Here are some tips and tricks for speakers that I've learned the hard way for myself:

One thing I've been doing a lot in marking recently is changing the rubric language from: "poor okay good very good excellent" to something more like: "emerging developing capable competent mastered" I've found it a lot easier to use.

I met w/ someone today whose manager has been talking demeaningly towards her and is taking credit for her work. She brought it up with HR. He is retaliating by give her a bad performance review. She is the only woman on their tech team and had no one else to talk to. 1/2

Should go without saying: reporters of color shouldn't have their jobs threatened for speaking out about mainstream media failures to properly cover and contextualize issues of race. What's the point of bringing diverse experiences and voices into a room only to muzzle them?

My favorite thing about working with college students & recent grads is that they don't have years of people telling them what won't work or can't be done. Their lack of assumption and willingness to try new things without needing to reference existing design is a differentiator.
