In light of the recent acts of police brutality and other forms of violence against Black people, including the acts seen at protests around the United States, the film team behind “Silence Sam” has decided to temporarily release this film to Youtube.

Today is University Day . Started in 1877 by white supremacists to mark the restoration of their power after Reconstruction by linking it to & glorifying the Univ.'s settler colonial origin story. It should be a day to reckon with those legacies, not celebrate them. 1/8

This week has been a punishing seminar on the topic of Universities as violent institutions. Feeling thankful for fellow activists, students, staff, and community who continue to advance this campus's rich historical curriculum of struggle and resistance.

In cop propoganda post, Chief David Perry writes “we have been making strides as a department since my arrival one year ago.” Here is a list of things UNCPD has done in the past year.

Take note of two important words missing from this article: Student. Activists. Yet another arm of the UNC PR apparatus staying on message by erasing the labor of generations of activists. They did the research, they made the demand. But UNC continues to claim credit.

"Documentary" doesn't even fully describe what BIPOC mediamakers who go against colonial norms are doing with their work. They're reawakening our spirit. I'm going to need a new word.

This week sent out a fundraiser asking folks to donate money for bottles of “Old Well water"... that don't actually have water from the Old Well in them. So, it's time to talk about how the Old Well’s history, symbolism & traditions are rooted in white supremacy. (thread)

And while we're at it, same goes for lifting the 16 year moratorium on changing building names. The moratorium was wrong to begin with, let's not praise the university for lifting it "early"

As we celebrate this exciting news, let's thank the activists, students and staff who made this change happen, not the university. This is a big win for activists, but on ’s part, it is still the bare minimum they can do.

We should be supporting black organizers and activists actually doing the work. And the places we give money to should be a reflection of that support. Follow for info on funds/ where to donate.

If you are donating to funds, please make sure the people who are supposed to be receiving this money actually are! So many funds are not clear about how decisions are made and who is in charge. This is SO problematic and easy to miss. We missed it. But we all need to do better.
