Welp. Turns out the authors didn't talk to the "asymptomatic" woman, who...says she had symptoms from . Caution urged when extrapolating from a single or small number of studies on a new virus, y'all. One detail can change the picture.

Such a great article from '"I’m not as worried by the disease as from people’s reactions to it,” she told me over Skype. “People are freaking out.” '

Had no idea that the ghost knifefish that lives in the aquariums outside of the uni's Science Library held such an electric secret.

The 2019 n-CoV outbreak has exposed how very little people known about viruses, how very little people know about influenza and how little people understand disease risk in general. It also shows how susceptible we are to misinformation and sensationalism.

Evidence points to a bird origin for the 1918 influenza pandemic. A novel influenza virus that infected up to 500 million and killed 50-100 million. More people died from this new strain of influenza than from the violence of WWI

Influenza, unlike coronavirus, mutates very quickly. They can shuffle their genes like a deck of cards swaping generic material with other strains of influenza. The reasons we need a flu shot every year is due to significant small mutations.

This is a virus we need to monitor VERY closely. Not only is it a huge economic burden It can cause severe disease if it jumps I to humans. While it doesn't happen frequently there has been 800+ cases since 2003. Mortality rate between 50-60%

Just arrived in Wuhan, the epicenter of the coronavirus outbreak, which has been under lockdown for more than a week now. The mood among locals: anxiety, flashes of anger & frustration, and extreme boredom. Here I am getting my temperature measured in a hotel lobby.

Wow. This is an extreme position to take and likely will do more harm than good. This flies in the face of WHO wishes And how will they implement this logistically? How will they track this? And how are they defining all of the parameters? This is a really bad look for the US.

The woman in front of me on this plane is talking about pesticides and vaccinations and how “not all countries are created equal” and she’s “really into health, you know, like, gluten” and I think I’m going to scream. Xenophobia and being anti-bread are NOT wellness, Karen.

Dr. Chris Mackie says she wore masks from Wuhan to Canada, and went straight into home isolation even before she showed symptoms. She continues to be in isolation, and the illness was ‘barely positive” with a high recovery.

This is unique because the woman initially tested negative but a later test at the central lab in Winnipeg tested “weakly positive,” Dr. Williams says. Fully recovered in a few days.
