Over-all, I think this new @signalapp feature is potentially valuable, clever, good/great for some use cases, but is potentially horrible for some others, and increases/hardens the linkage between person-and-phone-number. Which worries me quite a lot.

This could - in theory - result in a stampede to add a PIN to your number… and then what? Forget the PIN when you swap phones? Then you must change your number in order to regain access to Signal. But if you *DON'T* add a PIN to avoid this risk, a third party could leverage it.

Replying to @AlecMuffett
I haven't looked at their final implementation yet, but saw mention they were planning to have you periodically re-enter your PIN, with frequency increasing/decreasing based on whether you forget it.
