@signalapp why do incoming text messages not get a check?
-
-
Sent from a secure source (ie signal app). ATM I have contacts (iOS users) who default starting conversations from insecure sources (ie sms). My reply goes through Signal but without clicking more info idk if their message originated from a secure source

Insecure messages will always have an unlocked lock icon in the outside corner. You can see what it looks like here: https://support.signal.org/hc/en-us/articles/115002260332-Where-is-the-lock-icon-for-Signal-messages- … If you are not seeing that icon, then it is a Signal message.

Did not know that. Thanks. Is it possible to make the icon locked/unlocked always show? I'm a big fan of peace of mind.
-
The unlocked icons are significantly more visible when they aren’t next to similar-looking lock icons. By default, everything in Signal is secure. SMS and MMS messages should really stand out. If you’re not seeing an unlocked icon, you can be sure that the message was encrypted.

What dot the checks beside outgoing texts indicate?
-
One check mark indicates that the message has been sent. Two check marks indicate that the message has been delivered. The check marks turn blue when the message has been read.

Clever... I've been using Signal for a couple years and had no idea. Can I disable the read receipts?
-
Of course! Signal Settings -> Privacy -> Read receipts
