IIRC When you launch Signal, there’s a prominently displayed message reading “so and so is now using Signal”. To some, it is undesirable to disclose that fact to *all* contacts without previous consent.

You’re missing the point. What I’m saying is that the fact that I am using Signal is advertised to my contacts. I may not want some of those contacts to know that I am using Signal. The notification is on their end. I can’t stop Signal from notifying them.

If you can unbind you phone number from your signal account. I can't think of why the
#phone number is required for secure internet communication... Go Key/PGP as the account ID... Let us do anonymous communication....
