.@whispersystems you fail to address why messages need to be re-sent automatically. "delivery failed. resend?" no blocking notification.

That would reveal to the server who has change notifications on or off, something WhatsApp considered carefully.

the server cannot know if it is the same message being resent. Securely configured client could send dummy message.

Shame on you, defending proprietary software to this extent. I expected a value above 0 from you, Open Whisper.

It would be easier to tell everyone to switch to Signal, but we think it's important to be accurate, and this is not a backdoor

Then to be accurate, say that it is a proprietary implementation and that you are not able to prove it is a clean one.

Some more technical detail on why the claim of a “backdoor” in #WhatsApp is clueless, harmful FUD. @whispersystems http://www.bildungsbasar.de/2017/01/the-whatsapp-backdoor-myth-and-uncritical-pseudo-journalism/ …

what about the msgstore.db.crypt12 files? Is it possible for whatsapp/facebook to access or even decrypt them?

yes. The app is written by WhatsApp and of course it has access to the messages. They just promise not to leak it.
