If you want a remarkably straight-forward explanation of Labour's organisational aims and electoral strategy under Keir Starmer, check out Bridget Phillipson's comments at the Labour to Win conference this morning:https://labourlist.org/2020/09/bridget-phillipson-sets-out-labour-strategy-for-creating-social-democracy-of-hope/ …

Key quotes: "Our language and our framing must reflect the world as our electors see it, not as how we might discuss it at a GC" & "we cannot be thought of as a party whose reaction to every problem is more spending. It’s a habit we got into, and it’s a habit we need to break"

Yep. More spending, in the wake of the Tories putting billions forward to support the economy, isn't something that Labour needs to be advocating. No sirree. This isn't a strategy - it's just capitulation to whichever frame the Right wants to place us in.

It has never been a 'habit that Labour go into', although it may have escaped some people's notice that this is exactly what this Government is doing, with bells on - and that it is hugely popular.

👍👏👏👏 Our budgets were fully costed. It was about spending money wisely and making sure that those in need were supported. @bphillipsonMP. @Keir_Starmer. @AngelaRayner @AnnelieseDodds

'we must reflect the views of propaganda poisoned boomers who did the best out of the postwar consensus and now want everyone else to suffer.' Good long-term strategy that, really powerful stuff.

The sound of clocks being furiously wound back. Still, "let's position ourselves to the right of the tories" is a bold move. Exactly the talk you need in the middle of a pandemic and economic crash...

The comments on echo chambers are particularly amazing. Straight out of westminster. The shit hitting the fan across the land and we're up for re-litigating austerity politics. I know they say you always end up fighting the last war but jesus christ...
