Angela Rayner (71 nominations) and Ian Murray (29) are the only candidates through the first stage of Labour's deputy leadership election so far. Richard Burgon is next on 18, then Rosena Allin-Khan on 16 and Dawn Butler on 14. There are still 54 nominations up for grabs.

Why? People played softball last time and lost as a result. If Rayner lets Butler in, it damages her chances. This is a winner takes all contest, not some 'play nicely, children' game.

If she believes in a member led party she should. The membership deserve a diverse field of candidates. Two candidates chosen by the PLP just isn't good enough.
