We need Universal Basic Income for a lot of reasons, and maybe saving the arts isn’t one that wins campaign votes or whatever, but my god it’s so important. Art needs time. Art needs some very basic foundation of situational safety. We’re losing so much by living this way.

there's been mediocre art in every generation but like. the great towering artworks of our generation are sitting abandoned in google drives because of eviction, burnout, student debt, medical debt, needing to organize to keep conditions from getting even worse

My god. Jason is a civilian activist. KDL is an elected official. One of them has institutional power - literally the power to wield the LAPD at will. The chilling message here is that if you challenge authority & try to hold a corrupt politician accountable, you're a terrorist.

👇🏻👇🏻👇🏻 the LA city council is acting increasingly unhinged as a real left movement in the city grows and pushes back against their corruption.

Paul Koretz literally just told us all to fuck off yesterday and then KDL starts a fight at night. Now Monica Rodriguez calls Jason a terrorist. City council’s rhetoric is becoming increasingly dangerous. They need to stand down.

As long as narcissistic racist KDL refuses to resign, you don’t meet with him, you don’t meet with his staff, you don’t answer his calls, you don’t second his motions, you don’t file motions for him (we see you Monica), you walk out if he tries to enter the horseshoe.

RIGHT NOW: Disgraced Los Angeles City Councilmember Kevin De Leon JUST assaulted local organizer Jason Reedy. @kdeleon is out here assaulting people AGAIN. He was caught on those racist anti-Black leaked tapes and now he’s assaulting Black folks. ENOUGH IS ENOUGH!

KDL does not belong in Council or anywhere near power. This is a moment where Councilmembers must show us what side they’re on
Quote Tweet
If the meeting is allowed to go on with KDL in attendance, then it will just show the council is spineless. Most of them, not sure if all, have made statements denouncing him and saying he should resign. If they don't hold onto that, they're worthless.

Fares account for only 5% of Metro's funds. 90% of the money collected is spent on policing/fare collection. KIWA is proud to be part of 's Transit Justice campaign- we need to keep up the pressure to ensure these institutions serve the people. Fareless transit now!

For people who continue to deny that large-scale protests can force even the worst governments to respond, here's some news from Iran. Change is always possible -- never forget that we the people hold the power, not the state.

I spoke to more than a dozen unhoused residents in LA over the last 9 months about "sweeps." The majority of whom said they've lost belongings such as cell phones, clothes, money, computers, bikes and other belongings to encampment clearings.

Unhoused residents say "sweeps" have triggered medical emergencies and left people with serious chronic health conditions on the streets. Plus they separate people from important belongings and resources. Written by: @ShotOn35mm lataco.com/care-sweeps-la
