In first year undergrad I would figure out a physics problem while showering and then rush to finish so I could go write it down. This is a game changer 😆

Ha! I've outsmarted myself today by buying a dry wipe pen... To use in the shower - where all of my most brilliant and ideas form, previously in the absence of anything to write on...

Final conclusion: While this is a new foe, we have enough familiar data-points to draw on to treat it. Also, biorxiv and twitter have totally changed the accessibility of scientific discourse and research. 15/15

Sometimes doing science is a passion, sometimes it's a job. That's okay.

I know we all already know this but it’s *shocking* that universities hire assistant professors for, like, $40,000. People with PhDs and YEARS of experience. It is unbelievably low. Like, insulting ridiculously incredibly low.

Rejection is exceedingly common in academia. The acceptance rate for top journals is about 10%. Can you imagine a lawyer who loses 90% of his cases or a doctor who loses 90% of her patients?

Ten years ago today, The Lancet retracted Andrew Wakefield’s fraudulent 1998 article claiming the MMR vaccine caused autism. He performed procedures on children unethically, paid kids at a birthday party to give him blood samples, and doctored data. He still claims he was right.

Cardiac output is a measurement of the amount of blood the heart pumps each minute. In the 1st trimester of pregnancy this value increases 30-50%.

I read this thread and found out how much more money PhD students in the US are getting paid and now I'll never look at my stipend the same again 😂😭 At least we still have universal health care, poutine and ketchup chips, I guess 🍁🇨🇦

And so ended the tragic tale of the tired, stressed academic who bravely, despite all warnings, attempted a manuscript submission (in the year 2020). He had read this story, but believed he could do it...
