  2. Douglas was a fine actor and a great personality But engaged in too many liberal propaganda films (especially Paths of Glory and Spartacus)

  4. Yes. Dalits have been wronged, and continue to be discriminated against in numerous ways But the "guilt" and atonement for the same has to be a collective effort encompassing the whole society (including Dalits) Not a few handpicked "elite" castes

  5. Tweets like this defeat the objective of "reformists" Sure. There is much social "injustice" in India (as in most societies) But you will never budge the needle if you are keen on finding convenient scapegoats

  7. Yes and No There are regional dialects in Kannada or Tamil But the variation among them << variation between say Khariboli and Avadhi

  9. This pAsuram by Nammalvar in his Tiruvaimozhi comes v close to the notion of "Nirguna Brahman" Rough translation "My Lord is neither male nor female nor eunuch. He cannot be seen; yet he is not non-existent. To seekers (bhAgavatas) appears his form, but that may disappear too"

A detailed and commendable piece on Britain and the EU. I think populism on the Left must be much more open to civilisational perspectives, more than just civic nationalism.

Nothing wrong if Northerns choose to adopt khariboli as their literary language of choice.

    1. On occasion of Madhva Navami, this thread on the last two decades of Sri Madhva (1238-1318) which has some of our history's epoch-making developments is a humble tribute to the great Guru of tattva vAda.

  17. What the North Indian Hindu elite attempted in the 19th century was an attempt to de-persianize Khariboli by borrowing more liberally from Sanskrit I see that as an honorable attempt, not to be looked down upon

  18. And yes... Maybe it is true that given Khariboli's pre-eminence in the Delhi region, it perhaps got persianlzed in its vocabulary to a greater extent than say Bhojpuri or Avadhi But so what

  19. A few things - 1. I think it is common wisdom that Khariboli possibly predates Muslim rule. Amir Khusrao likely learned it from his immediate Indian surroundings 2. Just because Khariboli has traditional had an urban orientation need not make it less "Indic" / "Hindu"

Many traditional Hindu practices make sense in an age of epidemics - Regular Snana - Judicious consumption of meat and fish - Minimizing contact of lips and saliva with utensils that carry food - Use of water for sanitation
