Our next cohort for the Product Design Fellowship starts soon.
If you or someone you know could really benefit from a program that can help solidify one's design process and build an impressive portfolio, please do help spread the word!
As a nice bonus, Fellows will also get a (digitally verifiable) certificate co-signed by ownpath and the partner for their project submissions!
This is the kind of opportunity I wish I had early on in my career.
1. Fellows get a design brief with necessary context and data from our partner
2. They form teams, get started, and have regular check-in sessions
3. Fellows present their solutions on Demo Day and even stand a chance of converting it into a full-time role!
Content/theory are easily accessible, but there's still a gap when it comes to opportunities to interact and work with practitioners in the field on actual problems.
Good internships are hard to come by. Need something that is more scalable in terms of providing that exposure.
Real-world experience is arguably is the biggest gap for early career designers.
And it's a catch-22: how do you gain experience if that's the main criteria to gain experience in the first place?
This is why we're formalising industry projects at

What if we told you that after joining our Product Design Fellowship, you’d find two freelance gigs, work on a project with a mentor, and land your next big role in design?
9. Visual freshness ("stale") is sometimes overrated. Users don't like it when you change things they've gotten used to (see Who Moved My Cheese?). They have other things to do!
7. Making your stakeholders feel heard and informing them about your perspective helps build trust and rapport
8. An alarm bell should go off in your head when someone says "clean". Visuals are important, but shouldn't come at the cost of usability!
5. Value of a product or a feature needs to be greater than the user's pain
6. Knowing even a little bit about the implementation side of design, goes a long way!
3. Always test the solution with users, it's really cheap to do anyway. Test early, test often
4. Intuition can help when you're dealing with a variation of a problem you've seen several times. Else, research is that much more critical
1. Don't fall into the trap of Ta-da! design (going away for weeks and showing up with a solution to your team; collaborate early)
2. If it's hard to get buy-in for strategic research (i.e problem finding), you can sneak it in during tactical research (i.e solution testing) 😉
, I'll be asking him about his experience at Apple and Google, balancing intuition and data in design, how leaders can set the right design culture...
If you're not in Bangalore, what else should I ask him? If you are, join us!
you can abstract the quoted tweet: why do people pay for anything at all when there's some free alternative?
rhetorical question, but imo the selective idealism with educational services should make way for pragmatism while focusing on creating value and ensuring outcomes.
people are smarter than that, they already know there are free materials.
what people want: structured & safe learning environment, hands-on learning w/ relevant curriculum, practitioner-led coaching, personalised feedback, community, real-world exp, and outcomes (eg: jobs).
📢 I'm looking for freelancers to work with me:
❖ UI designer: proficient in Figma, component libraries, prototyping (remote ok)
✤ UX Researcher: experienced at interviewing, creating scripts, usability testing (Delhi-based)
Please DM your work. RT for reach 🙏🏽

The current climate in AI has so many parallels to 2021 web3 it's making me uncomfortable. Narratives based on zero data are accepted as self-evident. Everyone is expecting as a sure thing "civilization-altering" impact (& 100x returns on investment) in the next 2-3 years
Yes, but cigarette taxes pay for a third of the cost of the National Health Service. We are saving many more lives than we otherwise could because of those smokers who voluntary lay down their lives for their friends. Smokers are national benefactors.
