Yes i had that problem but not in the past 12 months so should be fine.

Yes me too. I could feel mine start to rub away due to moisture from your thumb affecting the rubber.
I know yeah. Or at least anticipate that the rubber would have to deal with moisture in some form.

No it is not an extra light, Just a window to allow light from original light bar.

Yes it is mate. Direct connection is also supported on standard PS4 with new pad.
