We need to radically reevaluate the American punishment scheme by lowering sentences for all offenses until we reach the point where Manafort’s sentence is seen as significant punishment. Level down not up.

I served 8 years for a crime & knew better the day I reported it. The 6pm news was enough to disgrace a 40 year career. Not sure 8 years made me learn anything...the embarrassment was plenty. We used to have short sentances...and less crime. Prison as a deterrent? Try education..
