Going fully remote was nice, but the real benefit was in going fully asynchronous. Here are a list of the benefits we've seen at @Gumroad:

That's the kind of place I'd want to work for. Do you have any non-coding jobs? Like technical writing or marketing.

Nothing available at the moment.

Did you transition from in office to remote? How did you manage that transition? What balls were dropped during the process that could have been prevented?
-
Yes. No balls were dropped. You can read more about that transition here:https://marker.medium.com/reflecting-on-my-failure-to-build-a-billion-dollar-company-b0c31d7db0e7 …

Has being async changed the speed at which gumroad can move internally? If so, positively or negatively? What are the cons of being async?

How do you hire? Like where do you find people and how do you try to identify if they are a fit with the remote culture you built?
-
I hire by Tweeting and referrals. Gumroad is big enough now that we don't have to do any "boots on the ground" work anymore. Fit-wise, our culture is out there too (see, this thread) and most people self-select as interested or not before meeting me.

Have all team members met each other? Do they even need to? Do you do retreats so at least to build some kind of physical bond?
-
Nope, nope, and nope!
