It makes constantly learning and questioning oneself almost morally obligatory — and knowing that you are never fully “right” mitigates the instinct to defensiveness which makes it easier to parse new information with a clear head.

I agree, but there have been a few times where I have lost conversations about things I’m right about because I didn’t have that stubborn sense of being so sure where my opponent did

i think this attitude is particularly important for people in a position of power, especially public policy - where verifiability of hypothesis is much harder, and learnings are much costlier.
