I think patents have their place, but only when it comes to mechanical things. They don't make sense in software. Software needs to be protected by copyright.

AI patent owners have generally better biz outcomes, according to data I compiled in 2018. 25% of AI patent owners were acquired, compared to 16% for all US tech co’s during the same period. AI patent owners had a failure rate of just 11%, compared to >50% for all tech co’s.

Patent owners also benefit from better access to VC, amounting to an additional $770k per patent, on average, compared to VC portfolio co’s that do not own patents.

Worse than silly, if you consider the patent / legal system killed Wilbur Wright. Okay maybe that’s an exaggeration,but it certainly made his last decade miserable. Patents massively misserve inventors.
