I just received a medical bill for an eye doctor appointment from 2+ years ago. I literally dated and married my husband in the time that has passed between that appointment and receiving the bill.

Hey twitter! I’ve returned to ask for your help for a class I’m teaching. What’s the most Jewish scene ever performed on an American television show?

I regret to report that the piles of macaroons in the shuk before Pesach don’t quite spark the same joy as the sufganiyot before Chanuka

I want to see a healthy press and plan to support the work I admire. I encourage you to do the same — and to share tips with journalists, to be nice to them, and to contribute to a culture in which we can engage with information we might not like without blaming the messenger.

It’s also an incredibly difficult time to be a journalist, period. The industry changing in ways we don’t yet understand, and the incentives seem alien to the goal of informing. And the feedback journalists sometimes receive is frankly unhealthy and shouldn’t be tolerated.

What makes a story Jewish when the notion of who is a Jew is in flux? How do you tell stories about Jewish ideas when the ideological lines of our communities appear to be drawn in concrete, not sand?

I also think that the Jewish community in terms of its place in the broader world and in its history is at some sort of turning point that makes the work of Jewish journalism incredibly difficult right now.

And a little thread: It’s been an honor to report on the Jewish world for the last few years. I still believe that journalism is a critical part of any community and that the Jewish community desperately needs the mirror of Jewish journalism to help it understand itself.

Some personal news: Last week I started studying for a master’s in Jewish History so you won’t be seeing me here or at @JTAnews as much anymore (though I’ll still be around a little bit.) It’s pretty great so far! If you want to reach me, DM so we can connect by phone or email!

I spoke to Lili Rosen, the translator of the children's guide to gender and sexuality "You Be You" into Yiddish. We spoke about the intricacies of translating gender terms into Yiddish and how translating the book helped her come out publicly as trans.

We hear girls screaming in the apartment across from our window “Sheleg!!!” We look out the window. “Sorry!” they shout across.“We’re from the south!”

I had the privilege of being neighbors with Rabbi Krauss. He was a lovely man. When the egalitarian minyan I co-lead held Shabbat services in the park next door during the pandemic, he expressed quiet support, which I admired. May his memory be a blessing.

You really gotta wonder what your gap year yeshiva learning is worth if you can’t bring yourself to wear a mask on the bus as required by law and when asked politely by people sitting right behind you

About this. I write about regular people impacted by tech. I have a credo on this beat: I never want a regular person to regret talking to me. And so I have a kind of Miranda rights that I give to profile subjects. It goes like this...
