Subtweet to media, especially science writers. When WHO says "there is no evidence", they don't mean something is false. There is no evidence either way. It could just as well be true. Also, "correlation doesn't imply causation" is wrong and stupid, and doesn't debunk anything.

Causation doesn't materialize out of the blue. Correlation is observed, causation is hypothesized and proven or disproven. The statement is typically leveled as a red herring. I am guessing. Not a mind reader otherwise. Also curious about Zeynep's meaning.

Because it does imply causation, particularly if there's a plausible causal mechanism. It's not proof, it's a hint.

Yeah, i've always preferred Correlation != Causation, rather than using the traditional academicy language. They aren't the same thing, and people forget that, but of course they are related. (Correlation and Causation are correlated and not causal. Statistical tautology?)
