Of course. Google didn't actually care about how good Susan was at her job, they just wanted diversity.

Yes and no: She was chosen because Google was started by its original CEO in her garage. They owed her a favour for about 20 years after that, and that ended up being her reward. Yes she weaselled her way through google that way, but she got it through connections not politics.
