Atlas does this and is amazing. It is a net new product at Atlassian from the innovation branch. Very modern, very easy to use and gives insight into work all across the org. I have been using it for a year and it is key to knowing who/what/how/why.

🙏 a big reason why we’ve shared our approach to product manager growth - hopefully more organisations can copy sherifmansour.medium.com/why-atlassian-

The default PM career ladder is:
PM -> Sr. PM -> GPM -> Director -> VP
But not everyone wants to move from building products to building orgs.
Something that I learned from @shreyas's course is that there are many other paths to choose from if the above isn't for you.

Good cases for, but I continue to believe product owner role is not a job, but a role our engineer leaders play. The word “handoff” needs to be abolished in the #pmcraft and if we are building shared brains together - we don’t need this.

A short story to illustrate why having "Product Owners" sit between Product Managers & Engineers to write user stories, prioritize backlog, and help with delivery rarely makes sense:

💡 One of the reasons we’ve found people want this is the desire to do the activities they perceive are only possible if you manage people.
👉🏽 To help with this, we introduced an individual contributor track: sherifmansour.medium.com/why-atlassian-

Too many new PMs these days want to quickly get “promoted” to managing other PMs. In the vast majority of cases, this actually hurts your prospects and your long-term compensation because one can never fully develop the necessary core PM skills within 1-2 years of becoming a PM.

Tried to have a go at highlighting the "data driven" vs "data informed" tension for this talk a while ago: youtube.com/watch?v=CIa0mZ
...although the hipsters will remind me the ✨ new, trendy term is "insights driven"💡😉

What is it about the term "Data-driven" that is so divisive? Trying to explain this to someone, but coming up short.

“Matt, I need to hire a product marketer. What should I look for?”. I'm asked this all the time. Spoiler, it’s not a simple answer.
In a role that’s expected to wear many hats + be a jack of all trades, don’t fall into the trap of hiring masters of none.

While I agree with the general intent of serving the team, please, PLEASE new PMs don’t assume half of this list is is the job of PM. Our craft needs better clarity around what a PM does, yes lots of misconceptions. bit.ly/3Iz8l8j But yes, serve your team where you can!
