    They’re literally selling something that is not theirs, which cost them nothing to produce or acquire, and costs very little at scale to distribute. As a margin it is ~100%.

    One time, this dude asked what I did for a living, but he would not believe that I worked on Xcode until one of my dude friends confirmed. He thought I only used Xcode and kept saying “cool, I use Xcode too”

    true story. A colleague invited me to a party. One guy intro'd himself and asked me what I do. Me: I'm a developer. Him: Uh 'developer' can mean a lot of things. What do you *actually* do? My colleague had to back me up and I explain that I do program at work.

    That part at least isn’t new - this goes back to Rove in 2000. It’s just degree and brazenness. They’ve decided (correctly, for now) that checks and balances don’t apply, so fuck it. We fix it by instituting accountability. I don’t think there’s any other path. Hope we can.

    My take on Epic vs Apple/Google: - It's ok that Apple/Google have a single app store as the only way to get apps on the device - It's ok for them to charge 30% of revenue - It's not ok that Netflix/Amazon/etc get secret better deals - I'm glad this will finally get court time

    Music on doesn't use Google Play Billing and requires users to type payment details by hand so they avoid Google's 30% cut. That is *chef's kiss*.

    This Apple-Epic battle is interesting. Apple charges 30% of in-game purchases for games played on its phones, and charges 15% for subscriptions (think newspapers or Spotify). /1
