While using representative language may alienate some readers. It may draw in or empower readers to whom representative language matter. I seek out publications that respect their subjects over style guides.

I think some people misconstrue forward-thinking language as politically liberal or pushing an agenda, but when you get down to it, it's primarily about being as accurate and respectful as possible.

And authors, you are so much more than the sum of your parts. Celebrate your work because you’re awesome, & you made something spectacular, whether it wins awards or not. I think you’re fucking rad, no extra conditions applied.

I kind of wish novels would come with disclaimers of the work they took: This book is brought to you by 1020 woman hours, 612 repeats of Hans Zimmer's "Time," 515 cups of tea, 20 existential crises and 14 session of sobbing into the living room rug.

I'm so over people "not connecting" with characters who aren't like them. You don't need to connect, you need to have empathy and compassion for human beings. Is that too hard.

I just wrote and deleted a tweet that I would have regretted so I will just make a subtweet instead: People who say things on the Internet are almost never looking for advice unless they explicitly say they are looking for advice Thank you, this has been a PSA

Bookseller Me would like to remind authors that we’ve all had events where no or only a few people showed up. Do NOT fret. Befriend the bookseller. We’re the ones on the front lines handselling your books bc you’re excellent human beings.

I am SO TIRED of reading YA with rich main characters y’all. When I read a contemporary YA & the MC never even THINKS about money, I cringe. Please, please stop leaving class & economic privilege convos out of your books.

Martin Luther King Jr. was assassinated in the very state that has now twice refused to denounce Nazis and the KKK. Shame on the Tennessee state legislature for such outrageous racism in the wake of Dr. King’s legacy.

Yes! I would LOVE to see SF/F branching out more. Give me your grumpy orcish cleric whose retirement is disrupted by solving murder mysteries, your sentient spaceships falling in love with other spaceships (or with their captains, or with space jellyfish)!

Yes, this. Y'all, when I die? Do not separate me from my work. My identity matters. My experiences matter. My beliefs matter. The same goes for any artist. Artists aren't heroes to be worshipped. We're people, in all our complexity. Want to honor an artist? See them as whole.

There is a persistent fallacy in publishing that it has room for only so many people, and that elevating others is a way of jeopardizing our own positions. Reject and rebuke it, my friends, for it is bullshit

disability is not a bad word. this mindset is toxic & contributes to the medical model of disability, which views us as something to be fixed. eradicated. disability is just another expression of gene variance in humankind - let’s focus on accessibility, acceptance, & inclusion.

I just mistyped "programmer" as "programmar" and thus invented a new job title for myself.
