a scientific dragging here, relevant for people who refuse to sleep 8 hours a night (not saying it's us...but it's us)https://guzey.com/books/why-we-sleep/ …

"I decided to compare the facts [the book] presented with the scientific literature. I found that the book consistently overstates the problem of lack of sleep, sometimes egregiously so."

I think it's a personal thing and it depends on needs of our bodies one person needs 10h of sleep another is good with 4 also it varies seasonally and what we do eat etc. So I always was very sceptical with this book tbh my friend recommended it to me and I was all like

Yup, the central claim of "everyone needs 8 hours or more!" doesn't align with people's everyday experience OR with the science itself... the blog post has a lot of material on it, esp the notes in the appendix are interesting (and awful to hear the harm done by the claim).

The book author seems to have deliberately ignored established science in order to make an inflammatory claim. :///

the most annoying this is that I heard him give a big public talk at a conference and believed him (he's really persuasive as a public speaker) even though I've also seen the data that contradicts his claims!pic.twitter.com/ZyioZFFlTm
