Twitter friends, I would like to have a way to: - read papers and digitally annotate them - read a few newsletters (and maybe digitally annotate them) - do some "box" thinking while reading and be able to forward that (realtime not needed) - take digital notes while reading books
What are your suggestions for devices or techniques? I'm trying to: - avoid buying a printer - avoid having to transcribe annotations into a computer - eye strain It seems iPad/Surface/<insert your favourite android tablet here> are overkill and pricey but maybe the way to go?

Your budget is not clear, so iPad + pencil is not terrible: you can get 2nd hand pencils for half the price and don’t need an iPad Pro for this. Reading experience is worse than e-ink personally, in terms of eye strain so it does not work well for me for long sessions.

Also on iPad you’d get apps for notes and sync and so on, however I have not found one app that is great at doing all. I stopped searching after a while and went back to kindle + paper books + paper notes.
