If there is a single good thing to come out of the #poweroutage it will be the postmortem I'll (hopefully) get to read one day.

Oh and just in case the
@nationalgriduk needs someone with postmortem expertise (either collecting data, building good quality timelines, post analysis, feedback, "root" causes, human/operator error (lol if you think that), arbitration, etc), feel free to reach out- I can help

An initial incident report by
@nationalgriduk at https://www.nationalgrideso.com/document/151081/download …. I'm hoping they will shed some light on (I'm not an expert in power): a) lightning strikes responsible for both power losses - they mention that being a rare event: how rare we can estimate it to be?1 reply 0 retweets 1 likeShow this thread -
b) is maintaining a higher than "just" the regulatory approved automatic "backup" power (of 1000MW) a potential learning? Yes, it's within requirements, are the requirements good enough?

c) some issues were caused by cascading "behaviour" of external systems - I think a question we need to bear is why did those systems create expectations that caused themselves to fail? And was it unnecessary for them to fail (not clear to me)?

And a great recap was written by
@mitch_oneill at https://mitchoneill.com/blog/uk-blackouts-interim-report/ …. Overall, the initial report is pretty good in its descriptions and timelines (but still lacks a bit on the changes it will translate into - maybe a question for E3C).1 reply 0 retweets 0 likesShow this thread
Big caveat here: I am *not* a power grid expert, the above are just some of the questions I'm left with reading the report. Again, have to say that it's a good report when it's about something that has happened less than a month ago and involving many stakeholders.
