I did a couple more things in #rustlang: (https://github.com/nlopes/arq , a library) and it's companion app https://github.com/nlopes/evu . evu is comparable to https://github.com/arqbackup/arq_restore/ … but in Rust instead of Objective-C (and local backups only).
