anyway Boo and I beat Pokémon Violet so guess who my favourite character is now, the answer will (not) shock you
A pencil sketch of Professor Turo, half his face looking desperate and starting to say “please defeat me” and the other half with a sinister smile and Tera crystals forming on the edges, saying “you will not threaten my dream!” The text for both is slightly garbled
Several pen sketches of Professor Turo from Pokémon violet; one of the AI holding his arm as his body glitches, a few different expression sketches including one where he’s saying “so proud of you…” and a tiny sketch of human Turo inspecting the robot’s inner workings

Honestly I need a deep dive on What Is Up With Voltorbs. According to past Pokédex entries they were discovered first in pokeball factories, but now apparently they once grew on trees and Electrode was a Pokemon lord well before pokeballs were in common use? WHAT IS THE TRUTH

Today I’m still just thinking about how if you brought a modern voltorb to ancient Hisui, it would be a Violet-style paradox pokemon. It LOOKS like the explosive tree nut Pokémon we all know and love, but this one’s weirdly mechanical, built out of synthetic materials!

Perspective Cheat: hanging figures on the horizon line! a perspective grid can still be useful for making sure everything lines up, but being able to guestimate environment by understanding where in space the characters are was SO valuable for me
a screenshot of a couple of drawings with the caption "every figure that's of roughly the same height will run into the horizon line in the exact same part of the body. This works for any part of the body" and showing a blank expanse indicated only by a line to imply the horizon, with scribbles of different people who are different distances away, all "touching" that horizon line at the same point
a screenshot of a sequence of drawings with the caption "you can use this to get a good guess at the perspective without doing a full complicated grid." the sequence of drawings shows a scribble of a human in front of a horizon line, then more people added around that horizon line at different distances (all "touching" the horizon line at the same point of the first figure), implying depth, and then a final image where a sidewalk and buildings have been scribbled in, based on the sizes of those people
a screenshot of a sequence of drawings with the caption "this is actually how I work out the environment for 90% of things I draw -- just figuring out where the horizon line should be based on the figures." The drawings show two people -- one up close, looking over his shoulder, at someone further away, calling "hey, wait up!" In the next image, a horizon line has been drawn in at the point where each character's body parts line up -- just above the shoulders. In the next image, a wall has been been arbitrarily placed behind them, only based on the height of the distant character, and in the last image, a grid has been extrapolated from the combination of that arbitrary wall, and the horizon line, and an environment of a hallway with doors and floor and ceiling has been sketched in around them

It seems like A SHOCKING GAP, but ppl with thousands of retweets on their art? have usually been seen by HUNDREDS of thousands of people and have the same gap. No matter how popular you are, 90% of people don't visibly engage. That's just the internet!! YOURE DOING OKAY!!!
23
Show this thread
i just need artists to know that having your work seen hundreds or thousands of times and only getting a handful of retweets is NORMAL, that is how it usually is for everyone, you are not doing anything wrong!! If u get like 1% retweets you're actually doing well!!

i keep seeing this unrelated argument about whether art custom-made by humans is "better" and if AI art is "real art" and like, what the heck, of course its art. But also it essentially paints with other creators' work as its medium, and we gotta talk abt how to handle that
19
Show this thread
i dunno, man. I feel like AI art is fascinating and exciting and it's a crying shame if anyone who cares about artists' wishes has to drop it like a hot potato because the people behind these projects keep refusing to source their training ethically/compensate artists

i think in my dream logic mind, it seemed entirely possible that he actually was dead and was just calling me to prank me. the obvious logistical problems with this hypothesis had not been considered

still in the middle of wrangling estate nonsense, had a dream that my dad called me on the phone, obviously amused. my flabbergasted response: "Are you serious right now!? Because everyone thinks you're dead, and if you're not, that's going to be a big adjustment!"

[Minecraft AU] Given the nature of the End Poem, I really like the idea that everyone perceives it in the way that allows them to best understand it... maybe if Joey shared the poem, Sammy would hear the music instead...
A comic drawn in a block minecraft style showing two people, Sammy and Joey, under a tree on a cold hill top, talking. Joey is disproportionately long and has some enderman features; Sammy has mold-like sculk growing on half his body, and they're surrounded by Sammy's sheep, grazing on the grass around them. Joey's talking, saying "I heard voices, or maybe I read it? It doesn't matter. It was an amazing story. The first voice said" and then Joey's words are replaced with music notes, and Sammy looks started at the change. After more music they're both quiet, until Sammy says "That's quite a story," and Joey replies, pleased, "I knew you'd understand!"

absurdly pleased with this little drawing that got out of hand

More Minecraft AU, I wanted to draw an environment with colours from those pretty shaders... a friendly visit from local merchant who PROMISES he will not be tooting his horn on the premises
a drawing in a blocky, isometric style with bright, warm colours of Sammy and Jack standing outside of a barn with a fenced in pen of sheep, with a calico cat following Jack. Sammy has a hand on his hip and stands behind a sign that says "NO" with a picture of a goat horn. Jack is giving a little nervous wave.

Anyway a cartoon character saying “I’m trans” isn’t actually bad writing and I’m sure alleged “bad writing” is not what those people were actually upset about LMAO but people misusing “show don’t tell” is what summons me to this realm in a cloud of smoke and fire so,

Even backstories don’t always need FULL VISUAL FLASHBACKS in order to “show” - sometimes you’re showing us something emotional in the person who’s sharing the backstory, and sometimes that’s more important and effective than puzzling together hints of a flashback.

And it’s worth noting you can “show” through dialogue — a character fuming “wow, I didn’t think you wanted to hang out with ME when you’ve been having SO much fun with your new best friend!!” communicates jealousy a lot more effectively than “I feel so jealous!!!”

But I think it can apply to characters, too — a character or narrator just saying “Joe was mean and abusive” can leave us unsure if we can trust their perspective; learning what Joe has said and done, tho, lets us come to that conclusion ourselves, and believe it more strongly.

“Show don’t tell” is not about obfuscation and making the reader puzzle things out — it’s about directly giving the audience evidence, rather than interpreting it for them. Common example: describing the details that make a place unsettling, rather than just saying “it’s spooky”

So, like, having a character mention “I’m a surgeon” isn’t narratively inferior to seeing him at work performing surgery. Which one fits better will depend on the pacing and needs of your story

Saw some truly bone-headed takes on Twitter today so here’s ur regular reminder that “show don’t tell” does NOT mean “information should not be communicated via dialogue” Rather, it’s a reminder to let the audience come to their own conclusions

The Cthulhu Boys don't have a context for Pride or many words for what they are, but this silly 1930s studio of queer folks being who they are and making a life with the ones they love anyway means so much to me, I wanted them to be able to celebrate it too. Happy Pride you guys!
drawing of the party from the Cthulhu AU, gathered close together and sharing a cake. The cake has a rainbow pride flag and each slice of cake has a pride flag's colours to represent each boy's identity. Peter is stealing a piece of Jack's mlm cake, Jack is laughing and taking a bite of cake with bisexual colours, and has another slice with polyamory colours and transgender colours. Sammy is squeezed in between Joey and Jack, smiling to himself with a cake that has transgender and bisexual colours. Joey is leaning on Sammy with an arm around Henry and eating a piece of cake that's got the gay rainbow colours on it, and Henry is smiling softly back at him and eating a slice of cake with aromantic and asexual colours.
