Be a better land steward. Avoid thin-film companies that use toxic metals, yet don't have a recycling program, or a product that lasts 5 years. Pass on solar power towers and algae.

Creditworthy partners (early customers, manufacturing partners, strategic investors, government agencies) are a critical source of stability, risk management, capital (working capital + investment), access to markets, capabilities and expertise.

A couple other thoughts: 1) Identify niche markets where your product has performance advantages and can generate early cash flow (and do the regulatory work to access them). 2) Get creative around capital. E.g. customer pre-payments, supplier financing, project finance, etc.

“If you build it they will come” doesn’t work in the space and if you aren’t ruthlessly prioritizing the commercial, regulatory and financing strategy of your tech from Day 1 you are doomed to failure.
