Asylum-seeking is not a constant-state thing. It tends to come in waves for exogenous reasons, so it is difficult for a government to have an infrastructure in place when demand is variable.

Agree, but also note resources have been added and process changes are being looked at that may help now and in future. In short, action is being taken but it doesn't happen overnight . Easy to criticize but hard to create

Everyone knows Canada needs immigrants ... I am one. They need qualified people who can contribute to Canada's future. Not people bypassing our excellent immigration processes.

I can read Rob ... he ignores the realities of an out of control problem at our border by labeling it as immigration. This kind of immigration does not serve Canada well.

Maybe we need to think compassionately and beyond the what's-in-it-for-us factor as calculated by nearsighted capitalists.

It's a privilege/entitlement issue. They'll look for any excuse to protect it.

It is so hard to explain this over and over. My go to now is: Canada has only tapped into a small portion of our resources. Why? Well, using small numbers as an example, if a job needs 20 people to start up, we only have 12 unemployed people for it. That other 8 comes from...

Immigration. We are underpopulated and that is LEADING to unemployment because a job can't start when there isn't enough people.

Although each and every one of your facts is correct you'll never convince the right of that. If Trudeau said the sky is blue, the right would say.."well it shouldn't be, and this must change."

Note the Advisory Council on Economic Growth wants to see 450,000 immigrants yearly, roughly 100,000 above the current government targets. They understand the demographics of a 1.6 fertility rate and a rapidly aging population.
