My husband and I both went to trade school. While it was free for my European husband (we gotta catch up!), mine was around $17,000 ten years ago. It’s not nothing, especially with interest. Trade schools train up a pool of skilled workers bidding down each others wages for employers to pick. Trade school is an alternative to a job guarantee and unionized employment. College is for fighting back, not getting a job. Trade school isn't an alternative to college.

We have to strongly disagree here. College isn't for getting a job, so trade school isn't an alternative to it. Public education is a right for all, as far as they can go. A Job Guarantee is for getting a job, and trade school is an employer-centric alternative to that.

College is both- there are clearly people who use the institution as purely educational (tends to be affluent folks), but there are jobs that require a college degree. It’s not either/or.
