That’s my initial thought but I haven’t had a chance to dive deep into it. Once you get into the spec, I’m sure there are differences.

I think a “select all that apply” type question where giving at least one answer is mandatory is used fairly often if that counts?

If I understand you correctly, yes it is. For example under a register form where one checkbox is required for terms and conditions and the other one is optional for a newsletter.

Or do you mean the checkboxes have all the same name? Like „articleGroup[]“ and it is required to select an article group? Then still yes.

Yes. Shows up a lot with consent processing under GDPR, where you need someone to consent to different uses of their PII at different levels of granularity (which makes a multi select a bit dubious from an informed consent POV)

Yes - I see this all the time in line-of-business apps, where e.g. one or more category/department/etc. is required and zero is invalid.

Reasonably so, yes. I've certainly created forms like that. I believe the original Apple Human interface guidelines were going to have a form element for it, a kind of combined radio button and check box.
