The #SantaFe shooter was a literal terrorist. In addition to an arsenal of guns & ammo, he had a cache of bombs planted in multiple locations.
The warning signs were not hidden. He publicly embraced hate & violence.
It sincerely got a pass because he was white. That's it.

This much is clear to me. The United States government is not going to confront the crisis of guns or of white supremacy/bigotry. In fact, Trump has emboldened this ugly nexus. Whatever is going to get done, we must do it ourselves.

Why does the government have to do this? Why weren't his parents monitoring his social media? Parents need to start showing some accountability! Now its comes out he was emotionally abused by his peers and coaches.
-
These kids need to stop bullying kids because they don't fit in with their social standards, or because the way the dress, or they find them weird.
-
Blaming the victims for what happened is the wrong approach. We all have a choice in how we react to things, killing others is never the right choice, no matter what. Stopping the easy access to guns is the better approach.
-
I'm not blaming the victims! I blame the parents who weren't monitoring his social media, the kids who bullied him, the coaches who bullied him. Why aren't they held accountable for treating this kid like shit?! Please explain that!
-
So the kids that you say were bullying him were not at his school? So not victims? Do agree with parents getting more involved in their children’s lives though. And parents should not let their kids have easy access to their weapons.
-
Your right I'm wrong, I did blame the kids. But shouldn't they hold some accountability? I mean you can only poke the bear so many times until it reacts. Do you condone bullying? I know if I was picked on over and over again I'm pretty sure I would snap too, not to that extent.
-
Gosh no! My eldest was horribly bullied, he suffered so much. For so long. I can’t even. He finally shared it. Thankfully school took action once they were notified by us (parents). Not every school is like that.
-
I am not sure what the solution is to bullying. Bullies have existed for decades, centuries more likely. But where, and when, did things change to where those that are bullied make the choice to kill as vengeance?

Or they could just ask. Every kid in every school in America knows which kids are the ones that might do something like this.
-
I can’t even begin to express how stupid this idea is
-
Why? Worried about targeting kids and other kids using it as a tool? That’s a reasonable concern. The flip side is that there’s nothing wrong with adults in schools talking more to kids. The kids have a text line where they can send concerns.
-
Ah, good clarification there. Students policing each other would lead to nothing more than bullying, but adult intervention? Hard to say to be honest
-
Definitely not kids policing each other, but a method for kids to alert adults to behavior that is suspicious or abnormal. Will it solve all the problems? No. But my point is that it’s usually not a surprise to anyone in the schools about the “who”.
-
We have a program for that with boxes for guidance office to get info. We (staff) actually do have folks we may mark as possible shooter and we keep folks informed.
-
Do you feel like it gives you an advantage in terms of early intervention? Do you find that kids recklessly report other kids?
-
Between that and teams of teachers having daily meetings to discuss students we have a good idea and keep kids moving forward. But we are VERY well funded so we have support that isn't nationally available :/

His father should be charged with involuntary manslaughter for not locking up his guns, ensuring his children can’t get to them or any other kid If you want guns you be responsible This is unacceptable
-
Yes, and how did he have explosives?
-
Guess you need to elect lawmakers who understand that mental healthcare will take taxpayers buy in. However, that is NOT acceptable to the lawmakers’ donors.
-
The problem is no one notice a problem with this kid so mental healthcare, which I strongly support, wouldn’t have helped this kid. We need parents to be more engaged I know when my kids are having a bad day and I talk to them once I even asked teachers to help watch to identify
-
Perhaps they didn’t notice, because everyone is too busy trying to make a living.
-
I was thinking of this very point as well. Too many parents have to work long hours just to make ends meet. They are providing shelter but the nurturing because they dont have time. But explosives in the house? You have to know what is happening in your house.
