My Latest. Stop asking what happened in the moments before police are filmed brutally beating, choking, assaulting, discriminating against, and killing Black people. Nothing, nothing at all, warrants the police brutality we are witnessing in 2018.https://theintercept.com/2018/05/14/waffle-house-police-video-starbucks-arrest-black-men/ …

2. This question of, "what happened before that video began" is a nefarious one - deeply rooted in anti-Black racism. It suggests that when we see an officer choking the life out of a young Black man in a prom tux, that something COULD warrant such a chokehold. It can't.

3. When we see police running and kicking the face of an unarmed handcuffed subdued suspect who is peacefully laying on the ground, I don't need to know what happened before a man's face was treated like a football to know that it was dead wrong.

One of the major problems is that, so many of these officers have a preconceived fear of young black men that, once engaged, they automatically fear for their life. I had an officer tell me one time “we don’t have to fight fair, and we won’t”.

Law enforcement jobs/careers are open in every single major city across the nation, why not solve policing by becoming a law enforcement officer and changing policy from within by using community policing?
