1. I used to use police forces around the world as models for how American police could and should behave. That's no longer necessary. American police, with their ethical, humane, measured treatment of white mass murderers show us that they know how to make peaceful arrests.

2. This question of, "what happened before that video began" is a nefarious one - deeply rooted in anti-Black racism. It suggests that when we see an officer choking the life out of a young Black man in a prom tux, that something COULD warrant such a chokehold. It can't.

3. When we see police running and kicking the face of an unarmed handcuffed subdued suspect who is peacefully laying on the ground, I don't need to know what happened before a man's face was treated like a football to know that it was dead wrong.

This question is often rooted in the perception of blacks as being mostly "refugees from a gansta-rap video"; the only concept of
#BlackCulture many people have. So they tend to equate ANY argumentative behavior by blacks as "criminal" in ways they don't when judging their own. -
YES, YES!!

THANK YOU!!! That has been making me crazy!!! Even certain people in my life have been asking and my reply is always the same... NOTHING warrants a brutal cop beating. NOTHING.

Yep. "What happened BEFORE an unarmed person was executed by police when white mass murders are captured alive and well and taken to Burger King?"

“Why did you beat that man even after he had completely lost consciousness?” “Because I felt so unsafe that even his lifeless form terrified me”

I’ll tell you what happened before all these events. The wrong people were hired to “serve and protect.” Inadequate police training added to generations of cultural racist stereotyping along with militarization of police forces that answer to no one.

I think this is really important. I always think "what if that was my daughter/son?". If there is no gun pointed at a cop, there should be nothing but verbal interaction.

Police brutality is always wrong and unjustifiable, and knowing what happened before is important. Both of these can be true.

My husband is a retired #
#nypd sgt. who is on the right aide of these issues; sees, calls out the rampant racist policing. He is also experienced enough to know that it's not always feasible to handle police matters without force.

Agreed. Especially since in our history Blacks were expected to lower their eyes and head to the police who called them "boy" and "Nig..." ! Today the police are beating people of color just for asking questions, followed by an arrest with bogus "resisting" charges.pic.twitter.com/iVHqZO4X4x

Deflection is real. After viewing a cop, choke, knee to throat, guns out & death. But yall want to see what happened before recording. It doesn't matter what happened prior it's the End result that stings everytime.
