Wow! My 9 year old daughter was set to learn about slavery in her school. On her own (having learned from my wife & I) she told her teacher that they should've learned all about Africa before they starting learning about slavery... AND HER TEACHER CHANGED THE CURRICULUM!

I make sure to emphasize Mansa Musa and tell of the incredible wealth Africa had and then try to steer the conversation to "Why 'don't' they have that now?" Now THAT's a conversation worth having.

That should gave me so much useful information. I was in the NJ public school system and we skipped from Egypt to Slavery and only touched on that. I had never heard of any of these communities.

Agree. So much to learn! Even Africans need to learn. Lots of them do not always know much about their continent.

I remember getting into college and realizing that I knew nothing about the history of Africa. Learning about The Mali civilization, Great Zimbabwe, The Swahili Coast trade networks, has been essential to my understanding of the world.
...or with the fucking truth about HERE. Tell the fucking truth about the pyramids HERE. Tell about the 1790-1830 census totals that ere "burned in a fire" or "lost" to hide behind the Racial Integrity Act. At least revive John Ogilby's paintings & drawings and go from there.
