Wow! My 9 year old daughter was set to learn about slavery in her school. On her own (having learned from my wife & I) she told her teacher that they should've learned all about Africa before they starting learning about slavery... AND HER TEACHER CHANGED THE CURRICULUM!

The African history course I took in undergrad was the one of the most fascinating, illuminating, and enlightening courses I took. And it started with the dawn of humans. Everybody needs to know this history.

I agree with most everything you say, but I’m not sure why you call it racist for starting with 1619. My 5th grade curriculum starts with that time period in August and moves through the 13 colonies up to the Rev War. It’s required for us. No racist intent.

US history vs World history? Too simplistic an answer? Sadly, what history we do teach in public schools leads our children to believe that anything that occurred outside of our borders is irrelevant.
-
Agreed but again, I teach 5th graders (10 yr olds) who have a limited understanding of their own country. I do the best I can to teach curriculum and empathy at the same time, as well as teaching about other cultures.
-
I get it; there’s not enough school hours in a kid’s life for them to learn everything they should. Inconsistent help at home & lack of support in general, all make teaching a nearimpossible job. I applaud you and hope that one day all kids will by taught by people like you.

But .. but .. the world is only 6,000 years old, right? And were there really any black people before US slavery? Asking for a friend.

Why is this classed as black history.....shouldn't it just be history I mean didn't white people come from Africa too?

So that is wrong but creating new slavery in the Congo to support our great tech future is OK
