Wow! My 9 year old daughter was set to learn about slavery in her school. On her own (having learned from my wife & I) she told her teacher that they should've learned all about Africa before they starting learning about slavery... AND HER TEACHER CHANGED THE CURRICULUM!

The history of the peoples of Sub-Saharan “Africa” runs deep. Yet, there is a gaping whole for Blacks who are the descendants of slaves. For many of our ancestors, their roots were effectively severed. Where do we start our story if we are uncertain of our specific origins? 1/2

Our story begins with the beginning of time. Our story starts with humanity. Our story is the story of human civilization, culture, and development. Our story does NOT begin in slavery. Our story begins with the beginning.
-
Whose story does not start with humanity, with life. At some point the tree of humanity spread its roots and people’s populated different areas of the world. Can all Blacks trace their path back from the Americas to their home in Africa where their ancestors planted those roots?

Yes.

Starting with the geography of Africa would be a great start. Most people are unaware of number/names of the countries in this great (& huge!) continent.

Amen! This isn't just a huge disservice to African Americans but to everyone. We deserve to understand the full depth and breadth of human history! The way slavery has been and is currently taught in the U.S. is very dangerous!

What black kid in the outskirts enjoys the slavery section of history?? None.. Its just a open door for discomfort from peers. I'm saying outskirts as some1 who grew up in the hills around Natives & Whites, I'm not sure how city kids who are amongst each other feel about it.

I went through the same thing. My high school was 95% white.

Humbly, I thank you for this. Stupidly embarrassed to admit I never thought of it this way.

History has been molded into fairy tale teachings for far too long.

The Bible is a huge alternative. Deuteronomy 28 explains our history well before the 1600s. We, the Negroes, are the chosen of God. We are the true Hebrew Israelites of the Bible. They took our history and gave us theirs. See Revelation 2:9; 3:9 for further clarification.

This European perspective in school curriculum doesn't affect just history but all academic. topics & that view is what bolsters white supremacy.

If “white history” started at the “lowest point of white people’s history” - it would start now... There is no present, there is no past

It would sort of be like saying Jewish history started at the Holocaust.
